Nessie

Nessie has been cosplaying since 2019, combining a deep love of anime with years of sewing experience to bring her favourite characters to life. Specialising in anime cosplays—particularly One Piece and Fairy Tail—Nessie draws on a decade of sewing skills she began developing in 2012. Her journey into cosplay started with a self-made Lucy Heartfilia costume, and quickly became a full-blown passion, complete with fabric-stuffed rooms, foam-filled projects, and an ever-growing list of characters.

Cosplay has not only allowed Nessie to level up her technical skills in areas like foam crafting and wig styling (including a particularly terrifying Yamato wig), but also to form deep friendships and be part of a community that inspires and uplifts. In 2022, she began taking commissions to explore characters she may not have chosen for herself—gaining new knowledge and confidence with every stitch. One of her most treasured memories is meeting a fellow One Piece fan while cosplaying Zoro at her second convention, whose enthusiasm and kindness gave her the motivation to keep going even when her work felt imperfect.

Now, Nessie hopes to reach and inspire other cosplayers the way the community has always inspired her. As a Cosplay Spotlight guest at Oz Comic-Con Melbourne, she’s ready to showcase her work, connect with more creatives, and continue spreading the message that passion and perseverance can take you far in the world of cosplay.
