Cosplay has never been just about costumes for me.

Almost 11 years ago, I started cosplay as a creative hobby. Since then, it has grown into a passion, a career pathway, a community and a huge part of who I am.

I’ve learned how to sew, craft props, alter costumes and do makeup.

I’ve also learned how to manage events, speak publicly, run social media, mentor others, coordinate teams and advocate for the community.

And perhaps most importantly, I’ve learned just how powerful cosplay can be.

I’ve seen shy people find confidence.

I’ve watched first-time cosplayers discover a community where they belong.

I’ve helped people solve costume problems, encouraged people to give something new a try and had countless conversations with people who simply needed someone to listen.

That’s why creating inclusive and welcoming spaces has become such an important part of what I do.

These days, I work across the East Coast convention and cosplay community as a Cosplay Coordinator for The Collectors Market, Enchanted Faire and GHMX, while also consulting with NamiiCon and Comic Geddon and working with AusCos Mag.

I’ve been lucky enough to be a guest at conventions, judge competitions, collaborate with creators and vendors, appear on a cosplay web series and speak on panels including “Cosplay and Me,” “Cosplay & Mental Health: Behind the Mask” and “Ask Uncle Chris – Cosplay Edition.”

But despite everything cosplay has taken me to, my goal hasn’t really changed.

I want to help people discover what they’re capable of.
I want to help conventions build stronger communities.
I want to share what I’ve learned.

And I want to make sure there’s a place at the table for anyone who wants to be part of this wonderfully weird hobby.

Because cosplay isn’t just about becoming someone else.

Sometimes, it’s about discovering more of yourself.
