The State winners of the Championships of Cosplay will be flown to Oz Comic-Con Sydney in September to compete against each other in the Grand Final round for their chance to be named the Oz Comic-Con Australian Champion of Cosplay! If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these, you might be writing stereotypical characters in your fiction. We all know that representation of minorities in fiction is important to remove various stigmas for mental health conditions, sexuality and cultures. However, it is very easy to fall into the trap of stopping at the stereotypical descriptions of each of these characters, which can actually reinforce the stigma, rather than normalise. Katie will leverage her editing experience to help writers identify how to include diverse characters in an authentic, rather than a tokenistic, way. Katie writes fiction novels and is passionate about representing people from all walks of life in her fiction.
