Average Cos Slayer—also known as Lachlan—jumped into the world of cosplay just two years ago, with Oz Comic-Con marking both his very first convention and the beginning of his creative journey. His debut cosplay was Joker from Persona 5, complete with a self-made gun and sword, and from that moment on, he was hooked. Since then, Lachlan has created nearly 10 costumes, including builds from Goblin Slayer, The Mandalorian, and plans for a future Helldiver.
A self-taught maker with a passion for helmets as centerpieces, Lachlan brings an experimental and heartfelt approach to cosplay—often building in tight spaces with music blaring and shows playing in the background for inspiration. For him, cosplay is a space of freedom and creativity, a way to express himself without judgment, and he encourages others to embrace the fun and occasional chaos that comes with crafting something from scratch.
Deeply grateful for the warmth of the cosplay community, Lachlan now pays it forward by making sure new cosplayers feel welcome and inspired. With his signature mindset—“Even if it’s awful, it’s gonna be amazing”—he reminds everyone that the most important part of cosplay is to enjoy the process, take risks, and just have fun.
