I’ve been cosplaying for 8 years and volunteering in cosplay for 7. I’ve also been on or run panels at multiple cons, including OzCC, on the topic of cosplay and adjacent skills. Through cosplay I’ve built up skills and used them to give back to the community as a whole, performing as a character while in cosplay at children’s charity events, fundraising and visiting kids in the royal children’s hospital. Its these heartwarming and fulfilling interactions above all that drive me to improve as a character, but the cosplay community as a whole is what pushes me to create. I started off in makeup and SFX and found cosplay through that, I love tying that background into cosplays I choose; Sally from nightmare before Christmas, Genya from shadow and bone, various alien or human superheroes (some after losing fights). I really want to expand my knowledge of foam craft more, but have been improving as a sewist more recently, having done a 120 hour long embroidery project for a cosplay.
