My name is Chantelle, and I am a motivated Cosplayer and Pop Culture enthusiast, situated on the Sunshine Coast. I’ve been enthusiastically cosplaying for over 9 years now, and it is an absolute passion of mine mingling amongst friendly people with the same shared love of creativity. For me personally, my journey started with a simple love for anime and manga and transpired from dressing up in various costumes since I was a little girl. Finding any excuse to dress up when grown up, I discovered the exciting cosplay community through conventions. I began attending with simplistic cosplay costumes just for enjoyment and then soon discovered the competition events for cosplay. I knew then that I wanted to create and construct my own costumes, and this started my journey in discovering and learning the craftsmanship behind it. This gave me a creative outlet to expand my skills and inspired me to be creative and which helped embody my favourite characters. I always strive to learn and conquer new skills when crafting costumes within each project, from resin casting, embroidery, armour building and more. When selecting my next cosplay project, I always choose a character with diverse characteristics from the last, so I can challenge myself whilst learning new skills. For me, cosplay gives me the ability to step out of my comfort zone and develop more self-confidence. I can imagine and simulate a character that has confidence which in turn assists in helping provide me with confidence. Fake it till you make it!
My much-loved favourite memory is participating and succeeding in winning the Oz Comic Con championship of cosplay competition last year for Brisbane, with My fairy Boosette Cosplay Costume. I had won the Wildcard Award and was so ecstatic, and then they announced that I
also won the overall winner of the Brisbane Championship. I was in such high spirits I cried my eyes out on stage, as I couldn’t believe it. I was so proud to represent Brisbane (QLD) the following week in Sydney, for the overall Australian championship. I did not succeed in winning the Australian championship award, but I was so appreciative and grateful to be present there and I had formed so many new friendships within the cosplay community.
