DJ Qualls is an American actor best known for his quirky charm, distinctive appearance, and wide-ranging roles in both film and television. He first broke into the spotlight with his breakout role as shy and awkward Kyle Edwards in the hit comedy Road Trip (2000), a role he reprised in Road Trip: Beer Pong (2009). He quickly became a staple of early 2000s teen comedies, starring in The New Guy (2002), The Core (2003), and Hustle & Flow (2005)—the latter earning a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Cast. His film career also includes notable turns in Delta Farce, I’m Reed Fish, Small Apartments, and the cult thriller Buster’s Mal Heart.

On television, Qualls has played a variety of memorable characters, including Citizen Z in the Syfy zombie series Z Nation (2014–2018), tech specialist Ed McCarthy in Amazon Prime’s dystopian drama The Man in the High Castle (2015–2018), and Officer Davey Sutton in Memphis Beat. He also starred as Billy Nugent in the FX/FXX comedy Legit and won fans as eccentric hunter Garth Fitzgerald IV in Supernatural. His guest appearances span numerous acclaimed shows, from Breaking Bad and The Big Bang Theory to Criminal Minds, Scrubs, and Lost.

Born in Tennessee in 1978, Qualls survived Hodgkin’s lymphoma as a teenager, a battle that shaped both his physical appearance and personal outlook. After studying English literature at King’s College London and Belmont University, he began his acting career in local theatre before transitioning to film and television. In addition to acting, he has worked as a fashion model for brands like Prada, further cementing his reputation as a uniquely versatile talent in the entertainment industry.
