press play FAQS
IS THERE PUBLIC TRANSPORT?
Indeed there is!
Adelaide Metro provides a free tram service South Terrace to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, and The Gov is directly across the road from the entrance. Trams to the city are available every 10 minutes up until 6.30pm, after which they’ll run every 20 minutes with the last service leaving at 12.30am.
In Perth, late-night trains run on all lines on Friday and Saturday nights and the best part is if you catch any train between 12.30am and 3am on the weekend, they’re free. Check the timetable for the full list of departure times.
IS THERE PARKING AVAILABLE AT THE VENUE?
Depends on what you plan on driving to the event, your prized X-wing may not fit but there is plenty of space for cars at the venue. The median strip between Adelaide Entertainment Centre and The Gov has plenty of parking available.
Badlands Perth has ample parking available at the venue itself.
DOES THIS EVENT SHARE SPACE WITH THE PUBLIC? (WILL THAT ONE DRUNK GUY RUIN TRIVIA/MY COSTUME)
The main room and staging is an exclusive club for people who buy tickets to Press Play. There are shared spaces outside this area but there’s a bar inside the venue as well, so don’t worry too much about the muggles outside. There is ample security at both events and Press Play has a zero tolerance policy for anyone causing problems at the event. This also applies to our “Cosplay is not Consent” policy. If you feel unsafe at any time we encourage you to find a staff member.
If you plan on drinking at the event, please do so responsibly.
THIS SOUNDS LIKE A RAVE/NIGHTCLUB……
Sorry to disappoint, but that’s not really what the event is about. This event offers a heap of gaming, cosplay, trivia, nerd networking and events to keep your geeky side satisfied. There will be a DJ and dancing at the event — however that’s completely optional!
WILL MY COSTUME BE OKAY?
We are committed to having a fun, enjoyable night at the event – Including your amazing costumes!
If you are concerned about your costume/prop we do encourage you to check with staff prior to the event as they may not be allowed in the venue. Be smart, and think about the type of event and where you are for the night (If you plan on dancing, a full scale Buster Sword might not be the best thing to bring along).
If you have a larger build for the purposes of the Championship, please email staff before the event on firstname.lastname@example.org. We’d hate for you to get to the event and realise it can’t get through the front door!
I FEEL ANXIOUS IN THIS SORT OF SETTING…
That’s 100 percent okay. We want you to feel comfortable at the event and we will have staff around to assist you if needed at any point during the night. Make sure you put your mental health and wellbeing first!
IS THIS A REPLACEMENT FOR OZ COMIC-CON?
This event is one we’ve been planning for a while. We wanted to create a new event for fans of pop culture that is grown and supported by the community in a different way than a convention, and offering a different kind of experience to OCC. This is by no means a replacement for Oz Comic-Con.
IS THERE ANYTHING TO DO BESIDES COSPLAY?
Loads! This event offers a heap of gaming, cosplay, trivia, nerd networking to keep your geeky side satisfied. There will be a DJ and dancing at the event — however that’s completely optional!
WHY THURSDAY? (ADELAIDE ONLY)
This is due to the availability of the venue.
I’M UNDER 18, BUT I STILL WANT TO SEE/ENTER THE CHAMPIONSHIPS….
We will be live streaming the entire Championships of Cosplay so everyone can see and be inspired by the amazing costumes on show. The Championships require you to be over the age of 18 at the time of your preliminary round already — this isn’t a new rule, it’s been around for a while!
