We’re 2/5 of the way through our 2016 Australian Championships of Cosplay circuit. State winners have been named in Perth & Adelaide and in a few short weeks, Melbourne will join the accolades.

To get you excited for the Melbourne heat, here’s your chance to learn a bit more about the 2016 Perth Winner: Astrokerrie Cosplay!

What character did you cosplay for the Perth heat?
I cosplayed as the Crusader from Diablo 3

What inspired you to cosplay as this character?
As well as cosplay, I also LARP. Which stands for Live Action Role Play. When I LARP I need costumes that I can run, fight and play in. I’ve been so in love with the crusader design since I saw it and I knew it would be perfect for LARP. I had so much fun making it.

How long did it take to make your cosplay?
Around full time work and Uni it took me 2 months to make.

What was the best part of cosplaying in the Perth heat of the Australian Championships of Cosplay?
Having a Crusader outfit haha. Well that and the pride I felt when my costume placed in Perth. I’ve never entered a contest like this and everything went to smoothly. The organisation helped with my stress haha.

What are you most looking forward to about the National Finals at Oz Comic-Con Brisbane?
Hanging out with friends. I can only imagine how amazing the other city’s cosplays will be and I’m pretty proud to represent Perth. I will enjoy Brisbane no matter the outcome.

When did you first start cosplaying? What was your first cosplay?
I started in 2007 and my first cosplay was Rikku from Final Fantasy X-2.

What tips do you have for someone starting out in cosplay?
Ask advice! Research! When I started cosplay we hardly had any tutorials and now you find a blog or a video on just about anything. Just jump in and start. We all start somewhere.

What is something in the costume making process you struggle with, or want to learn to do better?
I really think I need better tools. Everything I have is pretty basic and even getting a airbrush gun would make my cosplay life much easier.

What do you do when you’re not cosplaying?
…LARP.. Or working haha.

If you had to pick a superpower, what would it be and why?
I would want to control electronics like that kid in Heroes.

Anything else you want to tell Oz Comic-Con fans?
Be awesome to each other. <3
